Born in the Australian Outback, the Kodiak Canvas Swag tent is a highly versatile, one-person, portable, sleep system. It is an advanced evolution of the traditional bedroll. Add a blanket or sleeping bag, and you have all you need to bed down. Unroll and set it up in a matter of minutes. It is six feet eight inches long and nearly three feet wide, providing a roomy sleeping space even for big guys. Use it on the ground, in the bed of a pickup, or with a compatible cot.*
It’s made with premium-grade, Hydra-Shield™, 100% cotton duck canvas. The tight weave and silicone finish make the canvas watertight yet breathable, minimizing condensation and mugginess. Unlike canvas tents of years past, our canvas will not wick water. Watertight and breathable, means you stay more comfortable. Aluminum alloy poles provide sturdy structure. The floor is a heavy-duty, puncture resistant, 16 oz vinyl that keeps water out. Unzip screened windows in the head and foot for air flow. These windows have small awnings over them so they can be opened even when it’s raining. When weather permits, roll the top cover back, and it’s like sleeping under the stars. The screen mesh keeps the bugs and critters out. Included is a 2-inch thick, open-cell, polyurethane foam mattress pad. The pad has a removable flannel cover that can be washed. When it’s time to move, the Swag packs up in no time—mattress pad, sleeping bag (sold separately), blankets and all. Everything is neatly rolled and ready for the next stop. When adventure calls, grab your swag and go.

This is a preliminary review because I have not actually slept in it yet. I have assembled it multiple times both on the ground and on a cot, packed it up multiple times, tried it with different sleeping bags, and spent time just lying in it. I think it is great for certain purposes. Obviously, it is for car camping not backpacking. Even though it is "small" in terms of living space, it is bulky. The bulk is the main drawback. However, it appears bombproof. The poles are high quality, the bottom is tougher than the average tarp, the canvas is excellent quality, and the stitching is uniformly well done. There is definitely a premium feel to all the components. I also purchased the tensioning pole which I think should be included with the swag because everyone will want it. With that one pole, the swag is freestanding. I was skeptical about the comfort of the pad but on my cot is is very comfortable, even on my side. My XXL cot seems to be made for the swag and pairs very well (should be available as a combo). Of course, the cot further adds to the bulk of the swag. I did put a generously sized Nemo 20 degree down bag in the swag and it was great and rolled up with no problems but was really bulky. I also bought one of the Kodiak Z-Top sleeping bags, worried that it might be too large to fit. The website makes no reference to using the Z-top with the Swag. The standard size zero degree Z-top fits no problem and is very comfortable. I also purchased a top quilt but have not had a chance to add that. However, I am certain that the top quilt on top of the Z-top is a bit much for the swag - the swag would be stuffed with all the material because these bags are huge. I was able to roll the swag with the Z-top inside it but the resulting object is really big, like a 60 gallon water heater. No way that fits back in the canvas carry bag. The cinch straps are nowhere close to long enough for that combo so I added some lightweight rope to the cinch straps with knots and that works. As per the instructions, I pre-wetted the canvas with water after I set it up for the first time. The canvas is impressively waterproof! I anticipate using the swag for car camping, especially in cool weather, on the cot and covered with either a tarp or in a pop-up screen room. Can't wait for fall!
So far I have only used it 3 nights, but it has been perfect. I love how well I can regulate the inside temperature by using the various screen windows to control air flow. I'm 6'4" and I roll around in the night. This was the perfect size for me. No complaints.
Ok, listen up. I’ve spent years in the field as a military person and also enjoy my time Outdoors as a civilian. This swag tent is absolutely amazing. The boys are jealous and I am comfortable. A few recommendations:
1. Buy an cot to put it on top.
2. Buy the Kodiak 0 degree sleeping bag - it fits perfect and let’s you sleep buck naked even when it’s about 30 degrees outside.
3- get the extra pole extension
This thing breathes well, but holds heat very well and regulates quickly. Plenty of windows to vent, and it’s keeps the bugs and water out.
Only used once so far but worked out great,.
After spending over 45 days in this tent, it has become my go to tent for camping. Quick set up and take down, incredible durability and the most comfortable mattress I have slept on. Conditions ranged from pouring rain to below freezing temps. If you are looking for a solid one person tent look no further.
I used my Swag during my September elk season. It is extremely comfortable and very warm. It rained for three days and I never got wet. Most nights I slept with the canvas cover unzipped because the swag holds heat so well I was getting to hot at night. The foam pad is very nice to sleep on. I would recommend the swag to anyone who wants the comfort of a canvas tent without the hassle of setting it up. Using the swag for hunting helps keep you mobile and is very comfortable.
made very well,a little big that's a good thing.
Spent 8 nights in this tent during the 2018 Rebelle Rally (team #184 @sass_quatch_rebelles) and many nights since. The tent is so easy to set-up and tear down that I managed both my teammate's and my tents in less time than other teams with those pop-up tents. We both slept amazingly thanks to one of the most comfortable sleep pads I've ever used. The tent was plenty long enough and wide enough for my 6ft tall frame.
I wish the tension pole had been included rather than an optional extra. The placement of the center tent pole is awkward, it needs to be further towards the feet and also attached to the outside of the tent. The only other slightly annoying thing is that I can't sit up inside the tent.
I slept in the tent again recently and still think that the quality of sleep far outweighs my few minor annoyances.
I haven’t actually used it yet but I set it up and it looks and feels really well built with lots of overlapping material around the portion of the zipper that goes over your head, hopefully keeping the rain away. The middle poles and foot poles are really close to the same size so I numbered mine for easy ID. And the sleeve inside at the head of the tent for the poles is a really nice touch. I do wish the bag for it was a bit bigger though. Once you put a sleeping bag and pillow in there it’s really tough to get it rolled up tight enough to get it back in there and its so overstuffed zipping it up is impossible. Overall, I’m confident that this will last me many years and do well in many climates.
