So, I’ve shopped bed tents for a while now. I was going to get one of the cheaper nylon options.......until I saw and played with one in person. I was stuck wanting a floor......
Let me tell you, I just got back from three days in the backcountry using this tent. I set it up and broke it I’m in blowing snow and 50mph winds, with gusts! This turned to driving rain and then freezing temps in the high desert. I put a lot of faith in the reviews of this tent, and it’s apparent quality. It was up to the task.
My girlfriend and I can now set it up in less than 10min, start to stop........airbeds air mattress included. The trick is to have your assistant in the bed, putting up hoops, while you do the end awnings.
I can’t say enough good things about this tent! We just love ours! After backroad travel, I like to take the dust off my tailgate.......but even without, in the crazy winds we were in, it didn’t shake or chafe.
It also dries fast! Do bring a towel or two to stuff in the front corners (helps with drafts)......and one to lay on the tailgate seam (Oregon mosquitos are inventive!).
A+ Kodiak Canvas! Excellent product!
We purchased this tent to go camping Memorial Day weekend. It is well worth the price, got the job done. It kept us dry for sure!
Very nice quality. I need to erect it and wet it as per your instructions.
I just came back fron two camping trips back to back. At first, me and my girlfriend liked the idea of a truck bed tent. Turns out we fell in love with it. Being higher, away from humidity is a big plus. We slept really well in the tent, even with the dog. Second camp site was nowhere near level ground. Another advantage with this setup is to get a level sleeping area is as easy as throwing some wood under the tires. Quality is amazing. Totally waterproof even with heavy storms. Fits perfecly on my '96 F350 with a toolbox. Setup is about 15 minutes, take down under 10. Love it!
I'm a little disappointed. I'm camping right now in it and my first couple days I already have 3 rips. Disappointed the canvas is not more sturdy. Yes, I pulled was too hard on one strap. Gives me little hope this will be the tent that lasts.
Great idea, weak canvas in my opinion.
My husband and I spent the summer traveling and camping in this tent from the desert to the rainforest, this tent is awesome. It's easy to set up, I usually set up the tent while he was unpacking other things. I read a few reviews of people saying it's hard to set up and I just didn't find that to be true, especially after you set it up a time or two.
I was also worried about bugs, etc coming in because there's no bottom, but that wasn't an issue either, even in horrible mosquito infested areas.
Definitely worth the money!!!
First let me say that I love almost everything about this tent. I have owned other truck tents in the past, and really appreciate the heavy-duty materials used in the construction of this one. However, my main problem I have with this tent is the cheap hook and loop closures (similar to Velcro) that are supposed to keep the poles in place. After two years of use, they are stripped of almost all grabbing ability, causing the poles to move freely in even moderate winds. Most of the time this is not a problem, but when the wind gusts up, it is not uncommon for the back end of the tent to collapse, causing me to have to try to hold the pole in place by hand because the hook and loops just won't hold adequately. I hope Kodiak changes the design because other than this one design choice to cheap out on these closures, the tent is excellent. I was looking forward to many years of enjoyment with this tent, but unless Kodiak improves this feature, I will not be buying another one.
Thanks for the feedback Steve. We are not sure what is going on with your tent. We have not had this kind of trouble with any other customers. We will certainly have our design team take a look at this, as we continuously make improvements. Please contact our customer service to help you take care of this.
I researched tents before deciding on kodiak canvas. I choose Kodiak Canvas because of their quality. They use superior materials. Their workmanship is of high quality. I will be able to use this tent for many years. If you are looking for a great quality tent you should consider Kodiak Canvas Tents. Everything else is substandard in my opinion. Also the customer service is outstanding. I just cannot say how happy I am with my purchase.
Stays much cooler compared to traditional tents
