Installed this tent in my back yard in southwest Florida on the first day I received the tent. Had major thunderstorms the next two days and had to leave the tent up. Absolutely no leaks and tent held up perfectly to 30-40mph winds. Took about 3/4 of a day to dry once we got a sunny day. Very pleased with the tent so far. Took me and my wife about 10 minutes to set up in total. Way easier to set up then I was anticipating. Company answered there phone both times when I had questions regarding purchasing the tent. Very pleased overall
I am very happy with not only the quality of my tent but also the ease that I am able to set up and take it down.
Super easy setup. And take down I love all the venting the tent has.
First, I want to thank the staff at Kodiak who answered all my questions and were so helpful. My cousin’s family in Wyoming has owned a 10x10 Flex-Bow for years, and they also helped convince me this is definitely the one to get. They use it year-round on hunting trips, and have weathered a lot of high winds and cold winters.
I had my 10x14 Flex-Bow VX unpacked and set up solo within 30 minutes of delivery. Having watched a couple videos before purchasing, instructions weren’t needed. I’m only 5’5” with some back and knee problems, and setup was still easy. As for the weight, I had no problem carrying either of the two bags. I would make one recommendation for setup if it’s raining, and that’s to wear gloves for the side poles you set up at the end. They get quite slippery when wet. Barehanded, I kept losing my grip while lifting the pole with one hand, and positioning the base pin with the other to make connection. In dry weather the next day I tried again and had no problems.
There are so many great features but I’ll start with the tent bag. I was dreading the thought of stuffing a big tent like this into a bag. Then, when I first laid out Kodiak’s fold and cinch tent cover, I literally shouted “YES!” and immediately called the wife down to show her.
From the outside my favorite tent features were the side windows, and especially the canvas flaps that fully cover the zippers, giving even better protection and insulation from the rain, wind and cold. The awning is a great size and also easy to set up with the poles and guy lines. However, it will collect rain water if both poles are set to full height. One of the Kodiak representatives shared a great solution for this. When expecting rain, simply lower one of the two adjustable poles a bit so any water will run right off along the angle created.
The thick, tapered point stakes are welcome additions. They definitely won’t bend easily like those that usually come with less expensive tents.
On the inside, this tent is simply heaven. I’ve never had one with such steep walls that really open up the available space. While only 4’ longer than my 10x10 (6.5’ high) dome tent, my family swore there was over twice as much room on the inside. Thanks to the side windows on the VX, the airflow is excellent with everything partially or fully open. I’m sure the Kodiak 10x14 screen house has better airflow, but I’ll bet the VX is very close with all the windows open. For the first time I’m looking forward to summertime camping in the hot and humid Southeast.
My family likes the built-in storage pouches and the organizers that come with the tent, and I’m glad we bought a spare. They aren’t at all obtrusive and very useful. Also was really impressed with the tent floor material as it feels much thicker and stronger than any other tent I’ve had. Still I’m quite temped to get the canvas floor liner for comfort, glamping cred, and to better insulate the inside from the ground in colder months. I do hope these white floor liners might eventually be offered in a darker color like brown, OD green, etc. to help hide the inevitable stains over time.
I appreciated the ground tarp being thrown in with a Kodiak promotion, but I definitely would have bought it if I had to. It’s a strong tarp, and all the stake loops lined up perfectly with the metal stake rings on the tent. After 20 hours of rain, the bottom of the tent remained bone dry.
On a final note, my wife was initially aghast when she learned how much this tent costs. She was used to seeing only poly-material tents costing less than half as much. However, the first time she walked inside she was all smiles. She even just sent me a link to the Kodiak 10x14 Screen House (hint hint). Got to admit I love the idea of having both tents side by side with connected awnings. I also like that I wouldn’t need to strike the Kodiak Screen House if the winds pick up. I would definitely need to do that in high winds with most other brands. She definitely won’t have to twist my arm if we can come up with the extra scratch.
I can't say enough good stuff about this tent. I intentionally have not submitted a review until I used it several times over a few hunting seasons. It is very quick to set up and very roomy.
Purchased this tent last spring and couldn't be more pleased. We replaced an ancient canvas 10X12 Hillary that we had outgrown. With both my son and myself being over 6', this tent is a pleasure to stand up in and the added floor space is great. It does not quite hold the heat as our old tent, but that is to be expected with the additional openings. We highly recommend this tent.
Shaylnn has been an amazingly huge help! On the ball without delay. I absolutely love this tent and will look nowhere else!
The tents are awesome I spent a week in one last year elk hunting. Had to have one , I'm fixing to spend a month in mine chasing elk in Montana and Idaho I will be able to really test the tent.service is awesome .I'm the owner of Switchgrass Outfitters in Florida. I will be putting it to use in FL also.
This tent is incredible.... I’m very happy with the quality and the size!! It’s a great tent for long camping trips.
