Born in the Australian Outback, the Kodiak Canvas Swag tent is a highly versatile, one-person, portable, sleep system. It is an advanced evolution of the traditional bedroll. Add a blanket or sleeping bag, and you have all you need to bed down. Unroll and set it up in a matter of minutes. It is six feet eight inches long and nearly three feet wide, providing a roomy sleeping space even for big guys. Use it on the ground, in the bed of a pickup, or with a compatible cot.*
It’s made with premium-grade, Hydra-Shield™, 100% cotton duck canvas. The tight weave and silicone finish make the canvas watertight yet breathable, minimizing condensation and mugginess. Unlike canvas tents of years past, our canvas will not wick water. Watertight and breathable, means you stay more comfortable. Aluminum alloy poles provide sturdy structure. The floor is a heavy-duty, puncture resistant, 16 oz vinyl that keeps water out. Unzip screened windows in the head and foot for air flow. These windows have small awnings over them so they can be opened even when it’s raining. When weather permits, roll the top cover back, and it’s like sleeping under the stars. The screen mesh keeps the bugs and critters out. Included is a 2-inch thick, open-cell, polyurethane foam mattress pad. The pad has a removable flannel cover that can be washed. When it’s time to move, the Swag packs up in no time—mattress pad, sleeping bag (sold separately), blankets and all. Everything is neatly rolled and ready for the next stop. When adventure calls, grab your swag and go.

Great tent overall. Clean, easy setup. Very comfortable and retains body heat due to small size. The add-on pole that stabilizes the ends, really should be an included piece, giving the option to use the pole or tie-downs. Not sure what the rating is for being waterproof or just water resistant, but there appears to be many micro fabric holes. Probably doesn't prevent rain water from seeping in. Regardless, it very comfortable and is overall a great single person tent! Would recommend to other campers/overlanders!
Hey John --thanks for the review. Those micro holes seal up after the canvas is seasoned. Our hydra-shield canvas has superb waterproofing. You should not have a drop of water on the inside.
Great tent, very cozy, very dry, very comfortable, and SUPER EASY TO PITCH! The only thing that keeps it from being perfect is that the window near your head doesn't completely open. The canvas part will open but the mesh isn't zippered. This one change would make a serious difference in the tent's versatility.
I tried out my new Kodiak Canvas Swag 1-person tent in the backyard the last two nights (approx. 24 and 22 F). I was very pleased with how warm and well I slept. I've tried sleeping in a non-heated tent in the cold previously without being very comfortable albeit having been a bit colder. All I can surmise is that the smaller volume and perhaps the tent fabric hold the body heat much better than the other tents I've tried. (The vents were partly open as recommended. There are supposed to be a few colder nights still coming, in which case I'll try it again.)
The mat in the Swag provides comfortable support, and the frozen snow and ground under the Swag showed very little melting after the night's sleep.
I use this when camping solo or not taking the big tent. Held up fine in rain and cold Colorado mornings with frosty conditions. It’s a warm place to sleep, not much more. Sets up and takes down quickly. I do have a cot that it fits onto, so keeps me off the ground, and provides a little space to store stuff under the cot. No complaints. With work, yes, it will go back into the bag...with work. Great swag!
I have used several different "Bed rolls" over the years. I can honestly say the design and function of the Swag tent/bed roll is amazing! I have only taken it out a few times since purchase but it has performed great through all the elements throw at it. The quality and construction are great.
I had my eye on one of these for a while and I am really glad I got one. The material is of excellent quality, setup is a breeze and the tent is just genius.
I use it for overlanding trips and you could not ask for a more simple design and set up.
I think that it is unfair to compare this tent to other designs, yes it is bulkier and only sleeps one but that is what it was designed for and it does it very well.
Was looking for a compact tent to take camping with me and be able to set up in my truck bed. This tent fit the bill, set up and take down is about 5 minutes and it fits perfect in my compact truck bed with the tailgate down. Great for when the bugs are out or the weather may turn bad. Love the waterproof canvas as it means no rainfly to fiddle with.
4 stars only because for my purposes (mostly truck bed use) I'd love it if it was free standing. There are grommets well placed to allow for one more pole to achieve this. If Kodiak Canvas ever sells that pole then I'll buy it and this'll be a 5 star tent in my book.
Turk: Thanks for the review. The pole you are referring to is available and is sold as an accessory. Look for the twist lock tension pole part number 100260.
After seeing this tent for sale, I knew I had to give it a try. Being a big guy, the size of this 1 person tent really caught my eye. I figured I had to try it out.
Shipping was super fast. The tent came packaged in the shipping box inside a vacuum sealed bag.
It was very easy to set up, even the 1st time. There are 3 poles that hold the tent up. Each set a slightly different size with the largest sliding into place by the head. Once you pop it up the 1st time, set up and take down is very quick and easy. I can pop this swag tent up effortlessly in under a few minutes.
The highlight for me of this tent is the quality. The matress is the main reason for this and it sure beats lugging out matress pads or foam pads if you really want a comfortable night outdide. This matress is super comfortable and stays in the tent and is rolled up with it for storage. The tent has straps that lash down to make set up, take down and storage a breeze. It is definitely waterproof with quality material and ventilation is perfect even with bag zipped up with the window vent by your head.
The only draw back to this tent is its size. This is not the tent for backpacking or if you are trying to get deep off the trail. It you are setting up in campgrounds or spots near your car, or boat, then it isn't a concern. It would just be hard to haul for a long ways due to its size.it also is a struggle to get it into the carry bag provided. Once it is set up for the 1st time, even with it rolled up as small and tight as possible, you probably will need a different carry bag or just to go without one.
All in all I am super pleased with this tent and it is exactly as described. It seems and has been very durable so far and I would definitely buy recommend if you want a comfortable night camping!!
I love the Swag as for camping. It does everything I expected. I slept out in the rain with it the first day I received it, which by the way was very fast shipping. I slept comfortably and dry. I even had the head end ventilation about three quarters opened and no rain came in on me. I am 6'2 and had all of the room I needed. The only design change I would like to see would be to make it similar to some of the Australian models with the top spine to eliminate the middle pole. This would make it much easier for egress and degrees as well as free standing. My only complaint, and this has been one with almost every tent product know to mankind, is utilizing the the storage bag. I have rolled mine up so many times until I was blue in the face. After the tenth time I finally just accepted the fact that I have a light weight duffle bag for something else, because there is no way in God's green earth I am going to get that swag into that storage bag.
