I bought this tent for my 4x4 compact truck. Once I set it up I was the envy of my camping buddies. I had a dry, bug free, warn, and level acomadation that breathes better then anyother tent I have owned. I got a thin foam roll out pad to put on my truck bed liner and the a self inflating 3.5” thick sleeping roll and was more comfortable then my bed at home. Be sure to select the right size tent for your truck’s bed size, and you too we’ll have the comfort and shelter of a 21st century metal chuck wagon.
The review posted by Unknown on 20 Jul 18 is ignorant and obviously from a troll. Why? Because anyone who knows anything about this product and similar ilk know that NOT having to unload gear from the truck bed is EXACTLY why a FLOORLESS tent is such. Sheesh. I put my cot and gear in the truck bed, cover it with my tonneau while driving to my remote destination, then roll up said tonneau, clamp on Kodiak rails with c clamps (bigger than what came with tent because I'm clamping them OVER my tonneau rails), then raise my tent within 10 minutes WITHOUT moving any of my gear in the truck bed. I love this damned tent and have spent many months camping in my truck bed in NM and CO over the past four years. People who know nothing about the product shouldn't post reviews.
Well, this was a nice surpize. We contacted Kodiak to see if this tent would fit out 2010 Dodge Dakota since it was not specifically listed. We order it and watched the short video (recommended for 1 x set up) which was very easy & helpful. I was happy about the easy set up of this tent which I found to be made of very durable materials, easy to set up and very roomy. Totally happy with Kodiak and this truck tent. Happy trials!!
Absolutely love this tent! I would’ve hands down gave this product a 5 star review HOWEVER.. my only gripe I have is the fact that the 6ft-5ft model is designed for two separate lengths. Which means for us dudes who prefer the shorter bed get stuck with excess material towards the cab of the truck. Is it the end of the world? No. I just wish the tent was more specific to bed length and models were sold based on that. For someone with OCD and a not so tight fit it kinda kills me! With that being said it’s the best on the market by FAR.
Very pleased with this product and the service I received. I’m a UK customer who owns a 2018 Ford Ranger double cab. This mid-sized truck tent fits nicely, a small amount of extra canvas on the cab side but nothing to worry about or prevent this tent from being a firm 5 stars. Very sturdy construction, has weathered an overnight of turbulent UK weather with ease. Instructions were good, I had it erected within 30 mins first time on my own and down and packed away in less then 10 mins. Very impressive product, so glad that I contacted Kodiak canvas and had it shipped over.
This looks good but what do you do if you actually use your truck bed for what it was made for? I have a couple hundred pounds of tools in the back of my truck I wouldn't want to unload every night.
I received my mid sized Kodiac truck tent for my 2018 Chevy Colorado a few weeks ago and have managed to get out a couple of times camping. On receiving the tent it took about 30 minutes to an hour to figure out all the parts and set up the tent. I had to rethink the clamps as my truck has a tonneau cover and roof rack rails that run along the side of the bed. So using spring clamps and wood as spacers I could clamp the pole rail to the roof rack rail. The natural curvature of the poles pushing out held it in place without any problem. With the tonneau in place I could fit a full size mattress on top and have the whole bed for my rafting, kayaking and camping gear below. Being fine weather it was a easy system to set up and I am excited to see where this will take me. It now takes around 20 minutes to set up. I would have uploaded a couple of pictures to show what it looks like but it wouldn't let me.
I say initial review as I really haven't had a chance to use the tent in bad weather yet. So I hope that I can update this at a later date with more observations. In the meantime I'm heading back out to the river. Stay safe and happy adventures!!
Just spend six weeks camping in the Southwest US. CA, AZ, NM. From 20 degree cold nights to 90 degree daytime temps. Rain, dust, snow, and fair weather. This tent is great!
Toyota Tacoma 2017 with 5 foot bed. This tent was a little longer than I needed, however the extra few inches tucked easily between the bed and cap.
Take some time to learn to adjust the tent to front/back and left/right.
It took me 40 minutes to put up the first time! But I got that down to under 20 minutes with a little practice.
Understand that this is a very very durable and heavy tent set up. Not your coleman weekend easy set up variety.
Very well built. Very durable. Looks great. Works great
For those that say they can't make it work on a Tacoma with the cargo side rails - you gave up to easily. It's only a little tricky with the stock C clamps. You could get larger C clamps, but I didn't bother. Stock are fine.
Trying to set it up on my tacoma and the c clamps don't even clamp on my bed. I know it says some trucks may require different clamps but spending that much on a tent, the c clamps should fit better. Pretty disappointed with this tent so far.
Sorry to disappoint. The newer Tacoma does have a special track on the bed. It is very difficult to make one tent fit all beds. Some trucks may require a different clamp.
